‘State failed to identify site for project’

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister for Energy has denied stating that steps will be taken to implement the 4,000 MW project at Tadari. He said that he had mentioned that the State Government had failed to identify a new site for the project following opposition from the public.

“There were chances of me being misquoted. Following opposition to the implementation of the project, I had asked the Chief Minister to identify suitable land elsewhere. But the Janata Dal (Secular)-BJP coalition government did not take any steps in this regard. As a result, the State was facing a power shortage,” he said. He added that he had not violated the model code of conduct.

Speaking to press persons here on Sunday during his two-day tour of the district to campaign for the party candidates, Mr. Shinde said that he was yet to receive a notice from the Election Commission. Stating that the Congress alone could give a stable government. He said that while touring he observed that people were keen to vote for the Congress. According to him whenever the Congress had been elected it had ruled for a full term. It also gave priority to secularism and fulfilled all the promises made to the people.”

The people have realised that the Congress alone can give a stable government,” he said. Mr. Shinde said that the BJP was afraid seeing the wave of support for the Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.
