Habit of crossing dividers is appalling readers react

Sir,

The frequent violated rule is crossing medians. People cross the median line and drive on to the extreme end of the road. They end up confronting the oncoming traffic resulting in traffic jams. Traffic police don’t seem to be noting such violations.

Srinivas,

Hyderabad Dear Mr.Srinivas,

The habit of crossing medians and even concrete dividers through the gaps is appalling. We are certainly booking such persons. At places, our people may appear to be slack, but, e-Challans are being sent to such offenders even if they are not stopped physically. We are imposing fine on those occupying the wrong lane like the lane meant for left wheeling or for the on-coming traffic.

Sir,

I request the authorities to make available the MMTS timetables at all railway stations. The same should be published in all newspapers regularly. This will reduce the congestion of vehicles and more people using the MMTS. The traffic signal’s posts are very short and of uniform size at all junctions.

Shobha Baru,

Padmarao Nagar Dear Baru,

I will convey your suggestions regarding the timetable of MMTS to the Railways. Your point regarding the height of the signal pole is noted. We will try to get them raised. You may like the height of the new signals on Road No.1, Banjara Hills.

Sir,

Autorickshaw drivers are using tampering with digital metres and demanding their choicest rates. During summer vacations, they are forcing parents to pay monthly rent.

Ram,

Assistant Professor, NIMS Dear Mr. Ram,

Checking of autorickshaw meters can be done by the RTA or the Legal Metrology Department. However, for harassing passengers, making extra demand of fare or refusal to carry passenger without proper reason, Traffic Police books the drivers. If you have any specific auto in mind, you may inform us along with the area or stand from where it operates. We will definitely look into your grievances. Remember, Traffic Helpline – 1073 or 27852482, RTA Helpline – 1074. Payment to autorickshaws depends upon the understanding with parents.

Sir,

The statues at some junctions are so ill placed that commuting between the junctions becomes difficult. One example is the Neredmet junction. There is a statue in the middle of the road. It covers half the road between the road divider and the foot path on one side. The second one is Sainikpuri junction. The statue is placed at an awkward angel at this junction.

M.N. Sarma,

Defence Colony Dear Mr. Sarma,

There are many statues and structures which could be shifted with due respect in larger public interest. With experience and maturity, society has been accepting such measures.

Sir, Introduce monthly demonstrations in schools instilling traffic sense among the future citizens. The kids will teach their ‘educated’ parents. As accidents mostly involve youngsters, college authorities should take responsibility giving driving lessons as part of curriculum and licenses should be given when they pass out. I volunteer my services for any citizen-oriented programme.

Dr. Aanjna Surath,

Banjara Hills Dear Dr. Surath,

We are going to form School Level Traffic Awareness And Transport Committee (STATCOM). Work has been going on in this direction with the Education Department for quite some time.

A workshop has been planned with the Management of schools on the 7th of May. Regular drive is being conducted to make drivers fall in line, besides putting the autos in a queue. Thanks for offering your services as a Traffic Volunteer. Please join us on the next Violation Free Day. If you undergo training at our Traffic Training Institute, you will be designated as Traffic Warden.
