Minister criticises super speciality system Trikkakara hospital celebrates ninth anniversary KOCHI: The cooperative sector, with its democratic nature and ability to raise funds, should focus on healthcare in a big way to save the common man from the exploitation of super specialty healthcare system, Minister for Fisheries Mr. S. Sarma has said. Speaking at the ninth anniversary celebrations of the Thrikkakara Gram Panchayat Cooperative Hospital, the minister said the government was willing to extend help to cooperative institutions that worked in the healthcare sector. Mr. Sarma also inaugurated the newly-built Mother and Child Care Centre and a new operation theatre at the Cooperative Hospital. The Centre was built with money from the local development fund, and the theatre with the money raised by the Hospital Cooperative Society. As part of the celebrations the Hospital also started work on a critical care unit. The technical committee on waste management at the Cooperative Hospital brought out a book on urban waste and public health, which was released by M.M. Monaye, MLA. The book is a compendium of the experiences of various bodies, including voluntary bodies engaged in spreading the idea of scientific and sustainable waste management. P. S. Shyla, president, district panchayat, inaugurated the healthcare sub-centre, a new idea being promoted by the Hospital. The Hospital also organised a special medical camp for those in the construction and building sector on Sunday. The camp was inaugurated by A. C. Jose, Chairman, Coir Board. N. Ramakanthan, Director, Kerala Institute of Local Administration, District Panchayat Member M. E. Hassainar and environmental and social activist C. R. Neelakandan were among the many who spoke at a seminar on the challenges in healthcare.
