KOCHI: “City teenagers, please don’t go over the brink; there’s help at hand. Take it easy. Pick up the phone, dial 2540530 and pour out your heart,” so says Maitri, the suicide prevention helpline. In view of the scheduled SSLC and Plus Two result announcements, Maitri will be open 24 hours of the day from May 12 to 16. Schoolchildren, anguished over the results, can call toll-free 2540530 for emotional relief and counselling. Alternatively, they could contact counsellors in person at the Maitri office at ICTA Santhigram at Kalamassery. Maitri officials say that teenagers, in stress over poor performance in the examinations, tend to look out for ways to end their lives.
