Andhra Pradesh
The letter box once situated near Labbipet branch of the Andhra Bank on Bandar road was removed at the time of widening of the road a couple of years ago. The letter box was not installed again, though the road widening was completed. Several representations were made to officials concerned, but in vain. To cater to the needs of the people, the postal authorities should take urgent steps and install the post box once again as there is no post box in the vicinity. People are forced to go to the sub-post office situated at Venkatapuram all the way. T. L. Kanta Rao Labbipeta, Vijayawada Make it greenThe Kanakadurga temple authorities are taking up works worth Rs.100 crores atop Indrakeeladri hill. In the same breath, the authorities should sow seedlings and saplings of neem, tamarind and banyan on either side of ghat roads beside all around the hill. In addition, trenches should be dug to conserve rainwater on the hill. These measures would bring down the temperature in the city after two years when the plants grow old. The services of the Forest Department could be utilised if required. V.V. Ramanaiah Krishnalanka, Vijayawada Waste of moneyIt is not understood why our corporators waste citizens’ money in the name of study tours. The corporators are trying to tour, relax and refresh at the cost of people’s hard earned money. The Government has not appointed full time Municipal Commissioner for the corporation so far. The corporators should explain to people how far it is justifiable to go on a tour leaving the development works to wind. L.V.S. Kameswara Rao Poranki Rift on tourThere are reports that differences have cropped up even before the arrangements are completed for the study tour of corporators. The Congress corporators with recent infighting for the post of Deputy Mayor are trying to block the tour. During last year’s tour to south Indian cities too, there was a rift between Mayor Mallika Begum and her deputy Anne Prasanna. There is no guarantee that they will not indulge in squabbles and heated arguments during the proposed tour. It is better, if they don’t go on tour, as they do more damage to the city than learning about the municipal administration and implementation of government schemes. U. Lavanya Moghalrajpuram, Vijayawada It’s only for pleasureThere are reports in the media that the corporators are going on a study tour by spending nearly Rs. 17 lakhs. The corporators are scheduled to visit Vaishnodevi, Mathura, Kurukshetra, Ajmer, Fatehpur Sikri and Kulu Manali. The corporators claim that they are visiting JNNURM cities to study the implementation of the programme. Will they explain to the people whether the above mentioned places are implementing JNNURM scheme? This is nothing but a pleasure trip and a wasteful expenditure for the VMC. Ch. Kutumba Rao Patamata, Vijayawada
