Devotees throng Nagaramman temple

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: Thousands of people from different places thronged Nagaramman temple at Eraniel, a tiny village in Kanyakumari district, to offer ‘kolukkattai’ on Sunday. The temple is also known as Naga Devi Odupparai temple.

According to sources, the then King of Cavuery Poompattinam tried to marry two girls of a community. As the girls did not want to marry the king, the entire community migrated to Eraniel and Kottar in Kanyakumari district along with their family deity Naga Devi. They used to worship the deity after constructing a temple at Eraniel. The devotees used to bake Kolukkattai in order to offer it to the deity on the auspicious day.

The district administration has arranged 10 acres of land in order to facilitate the devotees to bake kolukkattai to offer it to the presiding deity.

The kolukkattai can be used for at least six months. The transport corporation operated buses to Eraniel from various destinations.

Special abisekam and pujas would be performed to the presiding deity on Monday.
