Development neglected during JD(S)-BJP rule: Kharge

Staff Correspondent

M. Mallikarjun Kharge

BELLARY: President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge appealed to the people to vote Congress for a stable government in the State.

Addressing modest gatherings during a series of street-corner meetings in Patel Nagar, Srirampuram Colony, Kulumi Chowk, Bapuji Nagar and Cowl Bazar, here on Sunday, Mr. Kharge claimed that it was only the Congress which had given priority for the development of the State besides coming out measures for the uplift of all sections of society.

Lambasting the Janata Dal (Secular) and Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government, he alleged that development had taken a back seat. During its regime, people, especially the poor, stood neglected when the government failed to provide BPL cards, ration cards, basic amenities, allotment of houses under Ashraya and the like. “The coalition partners indulged in infighting not for the welfare of the State and the people but for pursuing their own selfish interest in sharing powerful portfolios,” he said.

He criticised the BJP for the bad roads in the city and poor civic amenities and the failure of its leaders in making efforts to develop the city. “If they could not lay the roads and provide infrastructure, then why should they be elected? During the Congress regime, several houses were allotted under Ashraya, the public distribution system was in order and several pro-people programmes were launched,” Mr. Kharge said.
