Bangalore: The small handbook packed with information on the land of coffee and culturally distinct Kodavas, “Discover Coorg,” is now out in its third edition.

The book, edited by Bangalore-based journalist, P.T. Bopanna, comes with a few new features this time, with an addition of 16 pages.

It has a Coorg weekend tour plan compiled by Priya Ganapathy, also a mediaperson. “Though a week or fortnight would be the ideal holiday duration to unravel Coorg’s mysteries at a comfortable pace, city dwellers and (working professionals) opt for Coorg as a weekend getaway. Personally, I would push for an extended weekend,” writes Priya.

The book also has a special feature on Kodava weddings by Bollera Jajie Mandanna, president of Bangalore Kodava Samaja. A write-up on Virajpet, the second most important town in Coorg, has been added. The list of the popular home stays, where tourists can live and experience authentic Kodava hospitality, has been enlarged.

The booklet retains some of the interesting features of earlier edition, such as the cartoons of Ponnappa and photographs of renowned wildlife photographers Krupakar and Senani.

When the book was launched in 2006, it was basically targeted at the tourists who have been flocking to Coorg in the past few years. “Although, the book was initially targeted at the tourists, it was a surprise to learn that it was the local people of Coorg who were one of the main buyers of the book,” says Mr. Bopanna.

The book, priced at Rs. 195, has been published by Bangalore-headquartered Prism Books Private Limited.
