PUDUCHERRY: With an element of realism coupled with simplicity, two photographers have captured the myriad colours of life at a week-long photo exhibition.

The exhibition, being held as part of Alliance Francaise’s May celebrations, has been titled ‘Jeevan-II’.

The photographers, S.M.C. Rajesh and M.S. Suresh, have tried to reflect the reality of everyday life.

“Through these photographs, we have expressed the feelings of everyday life. The photos reflect life. We have taken many of these photographs in villages in and around Puducherry and in Thanjavur,” said Mr. Rajesh, who has been in the field of photography for the last 15 years.

Around 46 photos have been displayed at the exhibition, which will go on till May 14.

“A photograph should have not only beauty but also a message. When we see a picture, there should be a message in it,” adds Mr. Suresh.

Foregrounding scenes

This being their second exhibition, the two have attempted to capture scenes that are an integral part of daily life, but often ignored.

Take for instance, photos of a beggar treading the road with his heavy bag or a young girl helping her brother ride a bicycle or a man sleeping on the side of a compound wall.

Scenes at marriages, festivals and photos of children have also found a place at the exhibition. “There is not much awareness among the public about photography unlike painting, which receives a lot of patronage. Many feel photography is only for marriages and is compiled into an album. People should encourage photography too,” said Mr. Rajesh.
