NEW DELHI: Exploring the natural history and physical forces that have shaped the pattern of life across the African continent is Animal Planet’s new six-part series premiering this coming Saturday. “Wild Africa” will present the unique behaviour of animals in varied locations across the continent. It will cover six different environments and their role in the evolution of African wildlife. Filmed over two years in more than 20 countries of the African continent, the series attempts to unravel the evolution of its natural historic background till date. From the arid Kalahari and Sahara deserts to the lush green Savannah and the icy rushing waters of the Victoria Falls, “Wild Africa” takes viewers on a mesmerising journey of the mystical continent. “Wild Africa: Mountains” premiering on May 17 will give viewers an opportunity to encounter black panthers, lamb-catching vultures and rare goats who survive only on the remotest pinnacles of African mountains. It will also showcase the awe-inspiring highlands of the Great Rift Valley and the mighty Kilimanjaro. “Wild Africa: Savannah” that goes on the air on May 24 will take wildlife enthusiasts to the Savannah where more animals live than anywhere else on the earth. Fast changing and most unpredictable of all African environments, the Savannah is home to wildebeest, giraffe, marabou storks and termites. “Wild Africa: Deserts” on May 31 will show that animals and plants have found ingenious ways to conquer burning temperatures, intense solar radiation and lack of water, food and shelter. From the ancient Namib Desert in the south to the Karoo, Kalahari and mighty Sahara desert in the north, viewers will see how Africa’s climatic patterns have shaped the nature and life of animals. “Wild Africa: Coasts” premiering on June 7 will show that Africa’s 29,000 km coastline is the home of the most diverse habitat of all -- from coral reefs and mangrove swamps to desert shores and storm-battered cliffs. It will highlight baboons feeding on shark eggs, hyenas hunting seals and dolphins surfing the coastline. “Wild Africa: Jungles” beaming on June 14 will highlight the fact that African jungles are home to most extraordinary cyanide eating monkeys and plants that protect themselves from armies of ants and fish. “Lakes and Rivers” to be aired on June 21 will take wildlife lovers from the still depths of Lake Malawi to the icy rushing waters of Victoria Falls.
