NEYVELI: Nurses of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation-run government hospital at Neyveli observed International Nurses Day today to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. About 100 nurses, in their green sarees and white overcoats, with lighted candles in their hands, assembled in front of the Nightingale statue on the hospital premises and took a pledge to serve humanity with utmost dedication. NLC Director (Personnel) P. Babu Rao said nurses were angels sent by god to comfort the ailing humanity.Appreciating their selfless services against all odds, Mr. Rao urged the nurses to serve the patients with a smile and kind words. They should put available facilities in the hospital to optimal use, he added. He said a trauma care centre would soon be opened in the hospital to treat accident victims. Special training would be imparted to nurses on the latest medical treatment. He felicitated nurses who had put in more than 30 years of service, including Jothi, Angeline Sophia, Gandhimathi, Anthoniammal, Bala Nirmala and Jayalakshmi. Mr. Rao also honoured three nurses — Amudha, Visalakshi and Meera — for having taken minimum leave.
