ANANTAPUR: Essential commodities are going beyond the reach of the poor and lower middle class as the governments are unable to check price rise, district secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) G. Obulakonda Reddy said here on Monday. The multi-national food chains and traders are procuring the commodities cheaply from farmers and hoarding them thus creating artificial scarcity. Such commodities are also making their way to black market, he said. He suggested vigilance raids on godowns belonging to traders and major supermarkets to check hoarding. They are storing the commodities in godowns and cold storages, he alleged while talking to mediapersons here. ‘Unholy nexus’He alleged that lack of any action against hoarding and black marketing is giving an impression that there could be an unholy nexus between traders and government. He explained that the Left party governments are providing some relief to people by procuring the commodities from farmers and offering them to all sections of customers at affordable prices. Lack of government control on commodities trading is leading to crisis, he said. Those working in the unorganised sector are suffering badly with the price rise. The repeated talk by the governments on taking measures to ensure affordable prices are a mirage so far, he alleged. The party plans to stage protests in front of Central government offices, banks, post offices and establishments on May 15 in all towns and mandal headquarters in the district against the price rise.
