Illicit arrack unit unearthed

GULBARGA: An illicit arrack unit was unearthed and liquor seized in joint raids conducted by the Excise and police personnel in the district in the past 24 hours.

Official sources said here on Sunday that an illicit arrack unit had been unearthed in Jamaga-R village of Aland taluk, and two persons arrested in the connection. They were identified as Shivarudrappa and Parashuram.

As many as 2,000 sachets of arrack, a packing machine and 10 litres of spirit, together worth Rs. 1.5 lakh, were seized.

In another raid conducted on a field between Havalaga and Yelawantigi in Gulbarga taluk, 103 boxes of liquor bottles that were illegally stored were seized.

A motorcycle and a tractor trailer used for transporting the liquor were also seized. The officials seized an autorickshaw in the outskirts of Yadgir town and seized 450 litres of toddy that was illegally being transported from Andhra Pradesh.
