Kakinada: The e-Computerised Operations for Police Services (eCOPS) will be implemented in all police stations of the district from May 21, according to Superintendent of Police Y Nagi Reddy. Announcing this at an eCOPS training programme here, Mr. Nagi Reddy exuded confidence that the new system would help the district police improve their efficiency and it facilitates transparency in their functioning. By connecting all the police stations, the eCOPS reduces distance and it increases accountability as the top officials can check the progress of cases every day. Every minute detail of the FIRs would be known to the officers concerned. AutomationThe eCOPS records the following database: first information reports, crime detail forms, property search and seizure, arrest/court surrender, charge-sheets and case disposal reports, result of appeals and other registers. The SP said the automation systems that constitute eCOPS provide ample time for the police to investigate crimes which was their main function, instead of being mired in administrative matters. The eCOPS would speed up the work flow of police through links with prisons, hospitals, Revenue Department and other government departments, the official added.
