Engineering college to get off the ground

College of Business Management part of institution

College to be built on premises of Scooters Kerala Ltd


ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone for the building complex of the proposed Cooperative College of Engineering and Management at Punnapra here at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the construction of the college’s main building.

Coir and Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran will lay the foundation stone for the College of Business Management, which is part of the institution.

Finishing school

Industries Minister Elamaram Karim will lay the foundation stone for the Finishing School, which is also part of the institution that will be constructed on the premises of the erstwhile Scooters Kerala Limited factory.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Joint Registrar (Cooperatives, Alappuzha) P.R. Shivakumar and welcome committee convener H. Salam said the college would function under the aegis of the Cooperative Academy of Professional Education (CAPE).

It would offer engineering degree courses in the streams of Electronics, Electrical, Computer Science, Information Technology, a Master of Business Administration course, an engineering post graduate diploma course apart from housing a Finishing School.

Sixty seats each

There would be 60 seats for each of the courses.

The college, which will have the buildings of the Scooters Kerala Ltd factory being revamped for classes, is being constructed by the Vadakara-based Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society.
