Hassan: 52 booths record 90 per cent polling

Staff Correspondent

However, no candidate has come forward to file objections

16 polling stations in Arsikere and eight in Shravanabelagola are among them

Difference in signatures in electoral list and at the time of voting may warrant investigation

HASSAN: Despite the election proceedings in the district being videotaped and observers keeping a strict vigil on each polling station, 90 per cent polling has been recorded in 52 booths.

According to Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez, 16 polling stations in Arsikere, eight in Shravanabelagola, 16 in Arkalgud, two each in Belur and Hassan, three in Holenarsipur and five in Sakleshpur recorded 90 per cent polling.

These stations are Kamanaikanahalli, Akkanahalli, Kuruvanka, Yalanahalli, Mallenahalli, Baralu, Cholenahalli and D. Honnenahalli, all in Shravanabelagola taluk; Hiresadarahalli, Kyathanahalli, Donanakatti, Kadalamagge, Chjikkanakoppalu, Nagathihalli, Thalaluthore, Gollahalli, Mududi, Jenukal Siddapura, Channapura, Jakkanahalli, Kenkare, Hiriyalu and Manjenahalli, all in Arsikere taluk; Maragondanahalli and S. Bommadihalli in Belur taluk; Bommenahalli and Brahmadevarahalli in Hassan taluk, Somanahalli, Muttige and Kunkumahosuru in Holenarsipur taluk; Aladahalli, Yalagathavalli, Nilavagilu, Doddahalli, Banagundi, Saraguru, Terigalale, Ganguru-1, Ganguru-2, Mallinathapura, Basavanahalli Koppalu, Ragimaruru, Sompura, Lakkuru and Mallapura in Arkalgud taluk; and Kavalikere, Nidanuru, Lakkunda, Santhahalli and Heruru in Sakleshpur taluk.

In the 1991 Lok Sabha elections some polling stations in Hassan taluk recorded more than 90 per cent polling. The then Deputy Commissioner, Shivasailam, contacted the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi. Only after getting permission were the votes counted. Now, the rules have changed. If candidates object, or if there is a difference in signatures in the voters’ list and those recorded at the time of polling, there should be re-polling. In Hassan district, however, no candidates have filed objections.
