VIZIANAGARAM: Siripurapu Neelamma, a hapless mother from Vuddovolu village in Therlam mandal was seen sitting idly at Collector’s office here on Monday. She came here with the hope that the administration would extend medical aid under ‘Arogya Sri’ for her 14-year-old son S. Prasad who was diagnosed “lymphoma” (cancer) patient by doctors at the Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases, Visakhapatnam. He was admitted there for tuberculosis on April 17. The doctors discharged him on May 5 asking Ms. Neelamma to admit him in NIMS, Hyderabad, for cancer. When informed that ‘Arogya Sri’ was yet to be sanctioned for the district, she began looking for other means to get financial aid. Ms. Neelamma, the only bread earner for a family of five comprising herself, paralytic husband, two sons and a daughter, ekes out a living by bartering “karivepaaku” for rice. She sells part of the rice and buys other essentials. “As there is no medical facility in her village they usually visit PHC at Rajam in Srikakulam district that is close to the village,” she said. She can be contacted through well-wisher Ravikumar alias Mallaiah on mobile 9849736567.
