Transparency in administration

It is interesting to read a piece in the Reporters’ Diary column (The Hindu, on April 28.) Generally, officers find ways and means for not furnishing details to the public. Transparency in public administration is only on paper in many cases. Many persons are very reluctant to take it either to the State Information Commission or to the High Court.

In one case, the State Information Commission has given a positive reply and in another, a negative reply was received. The official secrecy is being maintained and it continues in the midst of officers as buzzword and not in transparency. High Courts alone can redress and get legitimate information.

Sand accumulation

Sand accumulation on both sides of streets at Tiruchendur may be because they are nearer to the seashore. Starting from the old bus stand, the entire car streets and end of Sapapathypuram street towards temple are a problem for two-wheeler riders since wheels of these vehicles get stuck in sand.

On trying to proceed, these vehicles move in a zigzag way causing fear among pedestrians. These sand accumulations are used to be removed at least once in a year especially prior to commencement of Skandha Shasti festival of Subramaniya Swamy temple, but for the last few years it has been stopped and accumulation gets increased.

Provide information

The Navodaya residential school, proposed to be established in Nagercoil, is supposed to function from the Government ITI complex at Konam. It is directly functioning under the control of Ministry of Human Resources and Development, New Delhi, and is catering to talented students.

But it is reported that initially it would function at a private school at Haneefa Nagar and would be shifted to a new complex later.

With regard to admission, no information is forthcoming regarding particulars like pattern of study, whether entry is limited to wards of central government employees or for all and sundry, etc.

As Schools are slated to start on June 2, it will be better, if admission is completed well in time in order to avert last minute hitch.

Increase flight service

The Tuticorin airport is catering to the needs of the people hailing from Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. But the airport is lacking proper flight services. The only trip from the airport is now to Chennai. Further, the number of seats on Chennai aircraft should be increased.

The flight services from Tuticorin to cities such as Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai are being much demanded by the people.

Increase pass percentage

The recently released plus two results reveal that the girls have performed better than the boys, as usual. Though its a welcome sign the boys should think of their position. They should not waste their precious time in playing and chatting. They should work hard and produce good result percentage.

Now there is a gab of six per cent in their pass percentage than girls. This should be reduced.

Koottapuly, Tirunelveli district.
