Seven blocks to be covered under groundwater recharge scheme

Krishnagiri: A total of 232 blocks in Tamil Nadu will be covered under the scheme of Artificial recharge of groundwater through dug wells in hard areas. As many as seven blocks in Krishnagiri district including Kaveripattinam, Mathur, Uthangarai, Veppanapalli, Shoolagiri, Hosurand Bargur would be covered under the scheme Assistant General Manager, NABARD V. Thirumalai has said.

Speaking at a workshop here on Monday he said that the scheme will be implemented at the National level at a cost of Rs 1871.10 crore and the state will be benefited to the tuneof Rs 450 crore. Small Farmers will be eligible to avail subsidy of Rs 4000per dugwell for constructing the water harvesting structures and other farmers will be extended subsidy of Rs 2000 per dugwell forconstructing the water harvesting structures.

With the district affected by water scarcity the schemewill be a boon tofarmers in Krishnagiri.The scheme has proved to be successful in Gujarat and Government of India iskeen to implement the scheme in Seven states including Tamil Nadu Mr. Thirumalai added.
