PWD building to house Tamil institute
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Close on the heels of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s announcement in the Assembly that there was no move to take over the Vivekanandar Illam for establishing the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, the Government has finalised a place for it on the Kamarajar Salai near the Illam.
The building was previously occupied by the Palar division of the Public Works Department and was handed over to the institute last week by the PWD. The name board was affixed on Sunday. The Chief Minister had inspected the building a few days ago and suggested some changes.
A PWD official said the institute would function in the building only for the time being, as the Government had identified a site at Sholinganallur for constructing a building to house the institute.
