Congress asks CPI(M) to explain tie-up with TDP

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Congress legislator K. Lakshmi Durgesh has asked Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu to explain to people the basis on which his party has decided to align with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the byelections.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he alleged that Mr. Raghavulu, who was representing a principled party like the CPI(M), was ‘ridiculing’ the political process with his talk on alliance with the TDP.

Recalling the struggles waged by the Left parties against the policies of the Chandrababu Naidu government, he questioned as to how the CPI(M) was hankering for an alliance with his party that was opposed to subsidies for poor.

Moreover, Mr. Raghavulu’s claims on bringing together the TDP and the party by film star Chiranjeevi, despite the uncertainty over its launch, exposed “his desire to bring back Mr. Naidu to power."

Confusing statements

He advised Mr. Raghavulu to desist from making statements that did not suit a leader of his stature and were resulting in confusion among the people.
