Goods seized in raids

KOCHI: Sales tax officials seized Rs.53-lakh worth of goods with “improper documentation” in raids on railway stations across the districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad on Monday.

The raids yielded Rs.5 lakh in fine on the spot, said a senior Tax Department official here. He said that the operations were conducted on instructions from Paul Antony, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes.

The goods seized included electronic and electrical items, household articles, readymade garments and spices.

A total of 587 consignments have been confiscated.
