IIT land assignees stage rasta roko

Only a few farmers receive notices, while others are in a quandary

Sangareddy: Assignees of the land earmarked for the construction of Indian Institute of Technology in Kandi village organised a rasta roko in front of the Medak Collectorate here on Monday demanding transparency in land acquisition process.

Representatives of farmers who met Collector Piyush Kumar stated that only few of the assignees received notices of acquisition putting others in a dilemma. They said that they are in possession of the land and have every right to know whose lands have been notified for acquisition. They also complained that the notices were given in English whereas the rules specify that notices should be in the local language, in this case, Telugu.

They warned the administration that they would undertake fast unto death opposite the Collector’s office if the final list of lands was not published along with the compensation package immediately. The Collector assured them that no genuine assignee would be put to loss.
