Lapses in records causing delay in wages: MPDO

MAHABUBNAGAR: Protesting over the non-payment of wages for works done under National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, labourers attacked the office of the MPDO at Damargidda mandal headquarters in Narayanpet revenue division on Monday. The irate labourers damaged the furniture in the office.

According to information reaching the district head quarters, over hundred labourers led by local Sarpanch Sharanya Naik went to the MPDO office and demanded wages from MPDO Mogulappa for the works done under NREGP which were pending for the last five months.

MPDO clarifies

The MPDO informed them that there are some irregularities in the records over the recording of attendance of labourers and assured that after verification, he will arrange for disbursement of wages. Incensed at the MPDO’s explanation, the angry labourers threw away chairs and tables out of the office.

Plea to MLA

It is said that the labourers took the matter to local MLA Gurunath Reddy also two months ago. He in turn had told the MPDO to settle the wages. But till date, the accounts were not settled and wages were pending.

Circle Inspector Rama Rao and Sub-Inspector Mahankali Rama Murthy along with other policemen rushed from Narayanpet and took into custody a few labourers along with Sarpanch Sharanya Naik.
