MISSIONARY ZEAL: Congress candidate Akula Lalitha with her party activists campaigning at Velmal village on Monday. VELMAL (NIZAMABAD DT.): Braving the hot sun, Congress candidate for the byelection to Dichpally Assembly constituency, Ms. Akula Lalitha has been going around the constituency. Since daybreak, accompanied by a host of women activists and party leaders, she is making door-to-door visits appealing to people to vote for the Congress. “I want to cover every village and locality and meet as many people as possible during my campaign. I am happy at the response and hopeful of my victory, as women are receiving me with great affection wherever I go”, she told The Hindu. Ms. Lalitha (40), who is the district Mahila Congress president is striving for her victory with renewed vigour and determination and carrying out campaign sans pomp or show. Being a woman, she finds it easy to meet womenfolk and her previous experience as MPTC, ZPTC member and Mandal Praja Parishad president has come in handy. With the blessings of Pradesh Congress Committee chief D. Srinivas, she is contesting, banking mainly on the developmental works implemented by the Congress government led by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. “Pavala vaddi, Indiramma housing scheme, pensions and ration cards, political reservations for women and reservations for Minorities in education and employment will work out in my favour,” she maintains. District Congress Committee president Gadugu Gangadhar who is coordinating with all party leaders in the campaign says a majority of women, Minorities, farmers and youth will catapult the party in these elections. “Our Government issued a record number of 1.50 lakh ration cards. We are going closer to people with our roadshows and door-to-door campaign”, he adds. Show of unityCongress candidate appears to be successful in bringing all the leaders in the party on to a single platform and therefore the campaign is perfectly hassle-free. They are trying to give a rare show of unity in the party by roping in everyone. However, at some places, Congress leaders face a piquant situation as people are complaining about irregular release of pension amounts and bills for construction of houses.
