The government would give a grant of Rs.5,500 for cultivating an acre, said Kudumbasree officials. Last year the government had spent Rs.22 lakh for the purpose. This scheme marks the 10th anniversary of Kudumbasree in the district, which will be celebrated with a variety of functions on May 15. Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammedkutty will inaugurate the festivities at Town Hall on Thursday morning. A procession displaying the achievements the Kudumbasree made in the last 10 years will be taken out through the town. State Women’s Commission member P.K. Sainaba will inaugurate a seminar. Awards will be given away to best community development societies (CDSs) on the occasion. The event will mark staging of different art forms and a fair of various products made by Kudumbasree units in the district. District Panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed will inaugurate the distribution of 15,000 saplings on May 17. Kudumbasree officials said there were 15,245 neighbourhood units, each consisting of 15 to 30 members. Municipalities and panchayats in the district will take up various schemes of poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment as part of the anniversary celebrations.
