KOCHI: Nurses in the district observed a week-long celebrations culminating in a rally and a valedictory function at the Maharaja’s College auditorium on the Nurses Day on Monday. Nursing students’ band led the rally. The function, marking the 188th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, was inaugurated by K. V. Thomas, MLA. Councillor Krishna Kumar presided over the function. Nurses should uphold values of compassion in their service, said M. Beena, District Collector, in her keynote address. Dr. Divakaran, Deputy District Medical Officer, welcomed the gathering and the nursing officer, P. K. Lalitha, proposed a vote of thanks. Prizes were also distributed to nursing students for winners of various competitions. An award for the cleanest hospital was given to Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital. The Government Nursing School won the award for most number of winners in competitions. A cultural event was held in the afternoon.
