Bank Manager gets 2-year RI

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday sentenced a Bank Manager to two years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) in connection with a cheating and corruption case.

Special Judge V K Maheshwari held V Surya Narayan Murthy guilty of cheating Vijaya Bank and wrongful gain to himself and other accused persons and slapped a fine of Rs.1.50 lakh on him, apart from the jail term.

“It has been established on record by the CBI that Murthy had cheated the bank to the tune of Rs.3.50 lakh by way of forged documents and fictitious accounts. I am of the firm opinion that justice would be delivered if Murthy be sentenced to two years’ in jail for his crime,” the Judge said.

Cheating

The court convicted Murthy under sections 420 (Cheating), 468 (Forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (Using forged documents as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and certain sections of the Preventions of Corruption (PC) Act.
