THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) is gearing up to launch 10 projects to mark its tenth anniversary. C-DIT registrar K.T. Balabhaskaran said in a press note here on Monday that an advanced technology centre, finishing school, new courses in visual communication and a training centre in free software are some of the projects that have been envisaged to mark the anniversary celebrations.

Projects worth Rs.40 crore have been worked out for the current financial year. The advanced technology centre would be set up by coordinating the functioning of various institutions under the centre. Linux Technology Centre for imparting training in free software would start functioning in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts this year. Two regional centres of C-DIT have been proposed in Ernakulam and Kannur.

It has been proposed to start television anchoring, sound direction and convergence media training programmes soon. The programme to impart training in information technology for SC/ST teachers under through Cybershree Centres with the support of the Union government is in the final stages. Steps have been taken to set up a placement cell to make use of the job opportunities in the IT sector.

C-DIT was set up with the Chief Minister as chairman in 1988 to promote research and training in imaging technology in 1988. The 11 divisions under C-DIT comprise visual communication, web services, technology extension, e-governance, optical image processing, educational informatics, software engineering, computational linguistics, communication training, open source technology and new media.
