On Campaign trail: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal campaigning for the party candidates for the Delhi Cantonment Board elections on Monday.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal on Monday marched on foot through Ward No. 6 of Delhi Cantonment while campaigning for the party candidate, Anita Sherawat, for the upcoming Delhi Cantonment Board elections.

He appealed to the local residents to vote for the party candidates stating that they were all grassroots people well aware of the problems of the people and would work towards resolving them.

Problems

Mr. Agarwal also assured the residents that his party candidates if elected would work wholeheartedly for accelerating the pace of development in the area. He also called upon the residents to discuss their problems with the party candidates.

The DPCC president accused the BJP of being an “opportunistic party” and said it was not serious about the welfare of the Delhi Cantonment area. He charged that the local BJP MLA, Karan Singh Tanwar, had not carried out any development work in the constituency.

In the last phase of campaigning for the elections the Congress has planned a number of public meetings in Delhi Cantonment. It would also be bringing all its candidates for an interaction with the media on Tuesday to provide a fillip to their campaign.

Meanwhile all the BJP candidates from the eight wards took out rallies in their constituencies that culminated in a combined meeting at the Dussehra Grounds here on Sunday.

BJP rally

The Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan and general secretary Vijay Goel addressed the ``workers’ convention” and then took out a rally through Sadar Bazar in the area.

The convention brought all the senior BJP leaders together on a common platform and through it the party sought to project a completely united front.

Other senior leaders present on the occasion were Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi, Delhi BJP vice-president Ram Bhaj, former Minister Harsharan Singh Balli, and Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Vardhan said that along with the candidates from all the eight wards, the area legislators and district presidents and their workers were also going from door to door to seek votes for the party.
