THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All students from first standard to eighth standard in government and government-aided schools in the State will receive textbooks free of cost this academic year, an official press release said here on Monday. The textbooks are being distributed free utilising the funds available to the government under the Union government’s Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme. Arrangements have already been made to supply sufficient number of the various textbooks to the Block Resource Centres of the Education Department. Book distributionThe schedule for distributing the textbooks to each school too has been prepared. Each Block Resource Centre will devote a particular day for the schools in each panchayat in its territory to distribute the textbooks, the press release said. The Sarva Siksha Abhiyan will also give a card to each student beneficiary recording the particulars of the textbooks he or she receives. Each student will have an identification number. The records in this card will be maintained at the school till the student reaches eighth standard, the press release said.
