Need for forming association of metros, says Sreedharan

Staff Reporter

‘It will act as a catalyst for exchange of information’

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E. Sreedharan has underlined the need for forming an association of Indian metros to act as a catalyst for exchange of information among different cities planning a metro railway.

Addressing a seminar here on Monday, Dr. Sreedharan also emphasised the need for standardisation in various spheres such as ticketing, train and tunnel dimension, loading standards, type of traction and design of civil structures. This, he explained, would help in reducing costs and ensuring tested quality of designs and procedures.

The seminar was organised jointly by the Union Urban Development Ministry and DMRC. The seminar assumes importance since apart from Delhi, new metro rail systems have been planned in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Kolkata.
