MANDI ADAMPUR (HISAR): Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda claimed on Monday that the Opposition parties had virtually been “exposed” as they did not have any issues to seek votes for the three Assembly by-elections on May 22. Talking to media persons at Panihar Chakk village in Adampur constituency, Mr. Hooda asserted that the Congress would win Adampur, Gohana and Indri seats. Addressing election meetings in the constituency, he said the by-elections had been forced upon the voters and sometimes such pressures yielded good results. He said the people had tried “only one person” for 40 years, a reference to his bête noir, former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, who is contesting on Haryana Janhit Congress ticket, and now they should “try” his functioning for two years. Promising accelerated and integral development of the area which has been represented by the Bhajan Lal family for nearly 40 years, Mr. Hooda asked the people whether any previous government had taken pro-farmer steps as were being taken now. The Chief Minister appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise in favour of the Congress candidate Ranjit Singh, son of the late “Tau” Devi Lal, and defeat Mr. Bhajan Lal who had defected from the Congress and joined the newly-floated Haryana Janhit Congress. Virender Singh, a close aide of the Chief Minister, talked about Mr. Bhajan Lal’s old age and ill-health and asserted that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had kept these factors in mind while giving the Chief Ministership to Mr. Hooda in 2005 instead of Mr. Bhajan Lal.
