BHUBANESWAR: City-based three-decade old theatre organisation Satabdira Kalakar has announced to hold a four-month crash course in acting commencing on June 1. Opening of an acting school in the State capital was a long cherished dream for the organisation, revealed its founder-secretary Mr. Dhira Mallick. Since there was no such scope for the large number of amateur theatre actors, directors and people involved in drama in Orissa, an acting school was badly required here, he said and added that the school with an intake capacity of 20 students was opened last year as an experiment. Against a modest course fee of Rs.500 per month, the students are offered an intensive training by some of the best known professional people of Oriya film and theatre like Ajit Das, Hara Patnaik, Nabin Parida, Santanu Mishra, Gouranga Rout and Bikash Das, Mr.Mallick maintained. Besides, the students are offered free accommodation facility, he added. The daily routine of the students include yoga and body fitness exercise during the morning followed by a four-hour class room teaching in the evening. The students are taught about voice culture, aesthetics, make up, dance, music and even stage craft with practical application, the secretary said. “Akash who got a break in the recently released Oriya film ‘Kalinga Putra’ and Aswini Brahma who acts in popular television serial ‘Tulasi’ are the products of this one-year-old school”, claimed Mr.Mallick, himself a dramatist of repute.
