HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday renewed his appeal to the main Opposition to join all-party team to other States and make a comparative study of development in Andhra Pradesh and elsewhere. Responding to the proposed release of the chargesheet against his Government by the Telugu Desam Party, he challenged the latter to prove that the progress and welfare programmes in other States were much better than in Andhra Pradesh. The all-round development was achieved despite the main Opposition placing several obstacles leading to precious loss of time during the last four years, according to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office. Recalls offerIf the TDP was not keen on visiting other States, it could accept a comparative study by a national independent organisation like Crisil, instead of making baseless allegations of corruption against the Government, he said. He recalled that the TDP did not respond to his Government’s earlier offer of taking it along with an all-party team and media in a chartered flight to other States. On the eve of the completion of four years of the Congress Government in office, Dr. Reddy said he had left no stone unturned to develop the State and fulfilled all the election promises he had made. Of the 79 irrigation projects taken up, 12 had been completed, supplying water for irrigation of 14 lakh acres. The Government had built 25 lakh houses so far, supplied free power to 26 lakh pumpsets, provided pensions to 50 lakh people and increased scholarship to students of weaker sections by 40 per cent. Health schemeIt was now offering Rs. 2 a kg rice scheme and the health insurance programme “Arogyasri” which were not there in the manifesto, he said. All this had brought happiness to the people and they were comparing development now and during previous regime.
