CBSE students in a spot as Anna varsity to close admissions on May 26

CHENNAI: CBSE students who wish to apply for engineering admissions in the State could be in for a busy — and stressful weekend — on May 24 and 25. With their Class XII board examination results expected around that time, and Anna University closing its applications on Monday, May 26, they will be racing to meet the deadline.

“Application work will involve getting certificates attested. With such limited time, it’s going to be very difficult,” says Priyanka Krishnan, a CBSE student in Chennai.

It is even harder for students living outside the State. Ruth Stephen, a CBSE student in Punjab, says it will be impossible to send her application in time. “Even if we manage to get all the results and the photocopies and send in the application immediately, how will it reach on time, ” she asks.

Sources in the CBSE said the results were likely to be out during the last week of May. Last year, the Class XII results for Ajmer and Chennai regions were declared on May 23.

“Anna University should take such decisions keeping in mind students of all streams. For a Board like ours, which holds examinations at an all-India level, it is difficult to bring out results before end of May,” an official said.

Date to be extended?

Anna University officials involved in the admission process say that the dates may be extended after discussions with the State government and the CBSE. “We will make sure there are no problems for students …Even State Board schools will only be giving mark sheets on May 21, so we may have to extend dates,” said an official.

The original dates for submitting applications had been announced after consultation with the State Board officials. “They expected to declare results by May 10, so we set the dates as May 10 to 16. We have not had any interaction with the CBSE,” said an official.
