VISAKHAPATNAM: MLC of north Andhra graduates constituency M.V.S. Sarma urged the MPs, MLCs and MLAs of north coastal Andhra districts to make efforts to establish a Central University in Visakhapatnam. Mr. Sarma, who is also Deputy Floor Leader of Progressive Democratic Front in Legislative Council, addressed individual letters to all MPs, MLCs and MLAs from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts reminding them that the State Government changed the proposals made by the Centre to establish a Central University in the city and shifted it to Kadapa, on the plea that sufficient land was not available. Since the decision was not proper, the people’s representatives of the region irrespective of their party affiliations must intervene and make the State Government to change its decision and ensure that the Central University was established in the city, Mr. Sarma said. Government flayedMeanwhile, the district committee of SFI strongly criticised the Government for shifting the Central University to Kadapa. This was against the promise made by the Central Ministers and the Chief Minister. Local Ministers, MPs and MLAs did not protest, as they did not want to displease Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy. SFI plans stirThe SFI would launch an agitation on this issue, its district secretary P. Appalanarsa said in a statement.
