Sachin Tendulkar. MUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar is likely to play in his team’s eighth round encounter against Chennai Super Kings here on Wednesday. Mumbai Indians’ icon player will take over the reins from Shaun Pollock, who excelled as a leader after the responsibility was thrust upon him. The batting maestro, confident of recovering from a groin injury, said: “Pollock was a makeshift captain and did a terrific job. It doesn’t matter who leads the side. We, at Mumbai Indians, believe that captaincy is all about helping each other and so inputs will be welcome.” Tendulkar batted at the team nets under lights on Monday. His last competitive limited-overs game for India was the second final of the CB series against Australia at Brisbane. He had scored 91 to star in India’s title win. PositiveTendulkar aggravated the groin injury in the first Test against South Africa in Chennai. “It was a tough period, missing the next two Tests and the IPL matches so far. I’m positive about playing on Wednesday.” Mumbai’s first choice captain was non-committal about the player he would replace against Super Kings. Tendulkar’s only T20 game for India was against South Africa at Johannesburg. — Special Correspondent
