Cable operator’s murder solved
Staff Reporter
Two accused are contract killers Others are victim’s former business partners
NEW DELHI: Five young men allegedly involved in the murder of a 32-year-old cable operator in Ambedkar Nagar here a few days ago have been arrested. Two of the accused are said to be contract killers.
Ved Prakash alias Raj was shot dead while alighting from his Santro car near his house at Dakshinpuri on May 7 evening.
Enquiries revealed that he had a long-standing business rivalry with another group of cable operators in the area.
Three suspects, Manish, Raju and Prakash -- who were the victim’s former business partners -- were found missing after the incident.
Acting on a tip-off that two persons suspected to be involved in the murder would come to Mehrauli on Sunday, the police laid a trap near Lado Sarai T-point on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road and on spotting a motorcycle on which the two were coming from Badarpur waved them to stop. One of the accused allegedly fired at the police team, but they were overpowered. A country-made pistol and a revolver were seized from them, the police said.
The duo Mohammad Ashraf and Mohammad Qamar, purportedly disclosed that they had been given a contract of Rs.1 lakh to kill Ved Prakash by victim’s rivals Manish, Raju and Prakash and had been paid Rs.10,000 in August last.
