Swimming competition on Sunday

PUDUCHERRY: If you are trained in swimming, then here is a chance to participate in a national-level swimming competition in Kolkata. The Pondicherry State Swimming Association is organising a swimming competition for children in the age group of 9 to 12 in various categories on May 18.

The association expects around 25 to 40 children to participate in the competition.

“We will select eight children from this group to participate at a national swimming meet in Kolkata from June 26 to 29,” general secretary of the association R. Vassandhan said.

The association had been conducting such competitions to select good swimmers for the south zone meet comprising Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, he added.

The competition would be held at Murungapakkam Swimming Centre. For details and registration, contact the General Secretary, Pondicherry State Swimming Association, No. 133, Main Road, Lawspet at phone number 2254241.

This summer, learn swimming from the experts at the Murungapakkam Swimming Centre. To learn the basics, “Learn to Swim,” a fee of Rs. 1,000 would be collected. The classes would be for 15 days. For training in advanced strokes, an additional amount of Rs. 1,000 has to be paid, Mr. Vassandhan added.
