Cauvery College for Women

Cauvery College for women one of the first self-financing colleges started in the year 1984-85 is run by Reddy Educational Trust. It is a temple of learning and always provides a chance to grow in all spheres of life. The College is completing 20 years of its service to women’s education and she realizes more than ever that, nothing meaningful can be achieved unless women receive a multifaceted training to prepare them, to take up their crucial role in the society. T he trust has 48 members who are enlightened and interested citizens of Trichy District and have a philanthropic outlook with noble and progressive ideals. This prestigious institution aims for excellence in Education wherein they have opened our portals to many first generation learners and students from rural areas to varied branches of study. The primary aim of this institution is to lay more emphasis not only to develop the technical skills of their students, but also to nurture professional competency, self-confidence, managerial abilities and entrepreneurial development.

The college was started with 40 students and at present our students strength is 3100. Now the college offers 12 UG courses, 9 PG courses, 1 PG Diploma in Computer Applications and M.Phil., in Commerce, Social Work and Computer Science. High-tech lab facilities for all science courses and 260 terminals and 11 servers to meet the needs of our students. Other notable facilities includes an A/C seminar hall, modernized internet lab and newly built auditorium which is one of its kind. We have well equipped modern hostel for accommodating 1200 students. The trust also runs a school by name Cauvery Matriculation School. The college has secured 611 university ranks with 66 University First Ranks from 1986 to April 2007. In April 2007 University Examinations we have secured 57 ranks with 4 University 1 Ranks. PG Department of Scial work, Cauvery College for Women was sanctioned with LINNAEUS-PALME GRANTS FOR INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME (SIDA) under Swedish South Asian Studies Network. The aim is to promote long-term cooperation based on mutual benefit between higher education institutions in Sweden and those in developing countries inorder to stimulate further global internationalization of higher education.

NAAC has awarded the college with the highest Grade of “A” Grade in the year 2004. The college students have secured many university ranks. In fact the college Karagam troupe has won several regional, university, inter-university, interstate and national awards and received a cash award of Rs.1 lakh from NYK and Ministry of Youth affairs, Govt. of India and the team won the overall championship (inclusive of literary, Dance and Theatre Championship) at BDU fest 2007-2008 a unique cultural competition conducted by Bharathidasan University.

This humble temple of learning is christened as Cauvery College for Women after the perennial river Cauvery, Which symbolizes Youth, Freshness, Vigour and fulfillment and therefore we have a threefold thrust for the taught and their chief aims are Academic Excellence, Employability and Self Reliance.
