Artificial recharge of groundwater scheme to be implemented in four unions

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The artificial recharge of ground water through dug wells scheme would be implemented in four panchayat unions of Rajapalayam, Watrap, Srivilliputtur and Sivakasi.
Chairing the monitoring and implementation meeting, the Collector said that Rs. 11 crore has been allotted to recharge all the irrigation wells in the four unions at a cost of Rs. 11 crores.
A pit of 2.5 metres by 2 metres with a depth of 2 metres would be dug near the wells and filtering structures would be constructed to drain rain water through it into the wells. Small farmers having land up to 2 hectares would get 100 per cent subsidy of Rs. 4,000 for the purpose. Big farmers would get 50 per cent subsidy of Rs. 2,000. The grants would be deposited in the farmers bank accounts, the Collector said.
Besides, raising the water table, the project is also aimed to upgrade the quality of water. Manager of NABARD bank, Manivannan, Lead Bank Manager, Sukumaran, Public Works Department Executive Engineer, Balasubramanian, were among those who particpated in the meeting.
