PUDUCHERRY: After a sultry day, heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed Puducherry on Monday night. Officials of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, said that it was only a “local phenomenon and nothing significant has been recorded.” According to the RMC officials, rainfall of 32.4 mm was recorded in Puducherry till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. In the next 24 hours, the RMC has forecast showers or thundershowers during evening or night. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 40 degree Celsius. Following the sudden downpour, power supply was suspended in several parts of the town at night. However, no damage was reported.
