Man arrested under Arms Act

VILLUPURAM: The police have arrested C. Kannappan (57) of Thethukadu in Sankarapuram block under the Arms Act for illegal possession of a single-barrel gun.
While constable Manickam, attached to the Sankarapuram police station, was on regular beat on Sunday night, he found Kannappan sporting the gun.
On enquiry the latter revealed that he acquired it from a narikorava to tackle the pig menace at his farm.
The constable told him that no one was allowed to own a gun without a valid licence.
When he asked Kannappan to come to the police station, the latter refused.
A group of people who gathered there also did not allow the constable to take Kannappan to the police station.
Following the intervention of Sub-Inspector Adhi Raghavan, Kannappan was arrested.
