Drive against rule violations

The offences include speeding, over loading and use of air horns

Coimbatore: Continuing its drive to ensure observance of traffic rules, the Transport Department, Coimbatore Circle conducted a five day long enforcement drive in Coimbatore.

As many as 781 vehicles were intercepted and 113 were booked for violations in the drive conducted on arterial roads from May 6 to 10.

According to a release from the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran, the drive was conducted by roping in all the officials from the Coimbatore South, North and Enforcement Wings of the Department.

During the drive the officials collected Rs 57,055 as tax.

A compounding fee of Rs 3,200 was also collected.

The authorities have proposed a compounding fee of Rs 79,000 to be realised by the respective registering authorities after adhering to routine formalities such as serving of notices seeking explanation.

The officials detected cases of violation by omni buses, share autorickshaws, autorickshaws, goods vehicle, national carriage permit vehicles, maxi cabs, educational institution buses, stage carriages, public sector vehicles and tourist taxis.

The offences include over speeding, over loading and use of air horns.

About 31 vehicles including 21 auto rickshaws, nine share auto rickshaws and one national carriage permit vehicle were detained for rule violations.

Mr.Gunasekaran said that the drive would be sustained across the circle and would be stepped up to ensure a culture of compliance to rules.
