TN Special Police advances

Kayalpatnam: Last year’s runner-up Tamil Nadu Special Police, Chennai entered the semifinals of the 43rd annual Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial Trophy all-India football tournament with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Government Press Football Club, Bangalore at the United Sports Club ground here on Tuesday.

The well-contested first session ended barren.

In the second, the Policemen attacked strongly and took the lead in the 48th minute, when Kanagaraj, receiving a pass from midfielder Jegan Kannan, found the net.

Kumaran increased the lead in the 56th minute finishing a Bharath Kingsley’s pass. Kanagaraj scored again off a Kannan Jegan’s pass in the 67th minute for a 3-0 lead.

The Bangalore team reduced the margin in the 77th minute when Wilfred headed in a flag kick taken by Sethuraman.
