Belgaum: About 69 per cent of the 28,92,632 voters in Belgaum district have electors photo identity card (EPIC), according to District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner M.E. Shivaligmurthy here on Tuesday.

During the revision of voters’ list, names of nearly 2.9 lakh people were deleted on technical grounds and 2.5 lakh names were added, he said.

As many as 3,759 electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been made available to the district. Each of the 2,703 polling booths in the district would have one EVM, he said. There would be two EVMs in the polling booths in Raybag and Khanapur constituencies where more than 16 candidates were in the fray, he said.

So far, 24 cases of violation of the model code of conduct have been registered in different parts of the district.

Most of the cases pertained to illegal transportation of liquor for distributing among voters, he said and added that liquor worth Rs. 1.2 crore has been seized.
