Bar association president submits affidavit to High Court

BERHAMPUR: At last the courts in the city started functioning normally from Tuesday after a gap of over five months.

The courts in the city had remained closed since December 4 last due to cease-work agitation by lawyers of the Ganjam Bar Association demanding establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in the city. On Tuesday the lawyers of the bar association again entered the court premises and different courts on the district judge court premises could start their normal functioning and hearing of cases. After a long gap the Berhampur court premises became crowded again.

President of the Ganjam bar association S.N.Rath said their bar association had decided to end the cease-work agitation as it had started to affect general public and the undertrial prisoners. The bar association has however decided to continue its peaceful agitation for the demand of High Court bench. The last four days of every month would be used for this purpose. The mode of protest during these four days would be decided at later meetings of the bar association, Mr Rath said.

This cease-work agitation by the members of the Ganjam Bar Association had started on December 4. Meanwhile as per the directive of the Orissa High Court, the president of the Ganjam bar association has submitted an affidavit regarding the agitation of the Ganjam bar association to the High Court.
