BERHAMPUR: The anonymous caller repeated death threats to Vice-Chancellor of the Berhampur University Bijay Kumar Sahu for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. On Monday the caller had made three calls to the V-C with the threat to kill him if he did not resign his post within two days. The caller claimed he was irritated by the disciplinary actions initiated by the V-C against some teaching and non-teaching staff of the university. A special investigating team of city police had started investigating into it. The caller had used telephone booths in different parts of the city to make his calls. On Tuesday the same caller called up Mr Sahu at 10.30 am and 12.30 pm repeating the same threats. The V-C was with the investigating police team led by Sadar circle inspector, Girija Sankar Rath in his office when the second call reached him. The caller also spoke with Mr Rath when he picked up the phone. This call was immediately tracked down by the police. It was traced to a telephone booth in the Haridakhandi area of the city. But by the time police team reached the spot, the caller had escaped. The owner of the telephone booth provided some vital data regarding the appearance of the caller. He was a man in his forties who had come on a cycle to make the call. One platoon of armed police has been deployed on the campus near the residence and office of the V-C. Speaking to newsmen Mr Sahu said after the recent threatening calls his family and he were feeling slightly insecure. The investigating police team has also started studying the files related to the employees of the university against whom the V-C had taken disciplinary action. During last few months he had taken action against 28 staff members of the university for their irregularities.
