Inability to pay Rs. 2 more costs them life

Staff Reporter

Man and his four-year-old daughter were reportedly pushed out of the bus and accidentally run over by it

BHUBANESWAR: It was a matter of Rs. 2 that cost the lives of a father and a daughter near industrial town of Jharsuguda on Tuesday.

The victims were allegedly pushed out of a passenger bus, which was still in motion, as they paid a little less than the actual fare.

“Though identification of the victims has not been established, other passengers narrated that they could be father and daughter,” Jharsuguda DSP Anthony Tirkey said over the phone.

According to the police, the father (35) and his daughter (4) boarded the bus, which was going to Sundargarh, at Jharsuguda.

The bus conductor demanded full fare but the victim (father) could not pay the amount. An irritated conductor forced them to alight from the bus at Talakotia.

In the process, the bus ran over the duo, who died on the spot. “We verified from the other passengers that the diseased was to pay only Rs. 2 more for the full bus fare,” Mr. Tirkey said.

Soon after the incident, the driver drove the bus to a nearby police outpost. But enraged local people set the bus on fire. However, police team rescued the conductor. The driver and helper of the bus reportedly fled the spot.
